Xinzo voters go to the polls in disguise in the Galician elections

As a nun, as a tiger, as a prisoner... some voters are going to vote in the Galician elections in disguise. The reason is that this Sunday of the Galician parliament elections is also the end of the carnival in some parts of Galicia.

This is the case of Xinzo de Limia, which has an entroido - this is how the carnivals are nicknamed in these lands - declared of tourist interest in Galicia. It is throughout the area of Ourense where this celebration has the most roots. There are many towns that devote themselves to these festivities, which last longer than in the rest of Spain and are a powerful expression of popular culture.

In Xinzo, according to the Faro de Vigo, some polling station presidents have been seen in disguise and unofficial polling stations have been set up in the middle of the street. There they are in the middle of piñata Sunday, the end of an entroide that has lasted for a month, from January 20 to February 18. There is no longer carnival on the peninsula, they explain on TVG.

Although some were lively and more colorful than usual, practically all of the Galician polling stations have been set up without incident. The exceptions have represented a certain delay in its constitution.

To "ensure the safety" of voters during the exercise of their right to vote, a total of 7,364 members of the state, regional and local security forces and bodies make up a special device for this Sunday, Europa Press reports.
