The socialist mayor of Pineda, with an absolute majority, incorporates the PP into the municipal government

The Pineda de Mar City Council (Maresme) adds a new member to the municipal government with the incorporation of the Popular Party councilor, Diego Sánchez, until now in the opposition. The entry of the only popular councilor into the local executive has been confirmed after successful conversations with the mayor, Xavier Amor (PSC), in recent weeks. Both have sealed a personal agreement “based on trust” in which Sánchez will have powers in Citizen Security and Mobility.

The entry of the new government councilor will take effect at the municipal plenary session in December. He will have powers in Citizen Security and Mobility, which depend directly on the government area of the first Mayor's office, which in Pineda de Mar is held by the socialist councilor, Sílvia Biosca.

The entry of the new councilor into the government team will take effect at the municipal plenary session in December. The mayor, Xavier Amor, clarifies that this agreement "is not about political parties, but about Pineda de Mar", as he already announced in his investiture speech, to put into practice a policy of an extended hand and maximum generosity, despite to the absolute majority that the PSC obtained in the elections of May 28. Diego Sánchez was a councilor of the Pineda de Mar City Council from 2003 to 2019 when he lost municipal representation.

The first mayor assures that "Pineda de Mar needs more views and plural contributions to its governance, which add and contribute value in the main axes of the Municipal Action Plan (PAM), and in the day-to-day political management work", and in this sense Amor assures that his formation is also in conversations with other municipal groups to explore more avenues of collaboration in municipal governance.

The possibility of incorporating more councilors into the government, as La Vanguardia has learned, after the entry of the Popular Party, restricts this opportunity, for example by the councilor of En Comú Podem, Marcos Ortega, who will not share the government with the PP. Other forces, such as ERC or Junts, are not initially very convinced about taking on a portfolio in the executive and prefer to maintain the oversight work of the absolute majority government.
