The PSPV denounces the suppression of a sexual education and LGTBI diversity program in Elx

The spokeswoman for the PSPV of Youth and LGBTI in Les Corts Valencianes, Cristina Martínez, has denounced the decision of the City Council of Elche (governed by PP and Vox) to eliminate a program on sexual education and LGBTI diversity.

The socialist deputy has highlighted that the decision to eliminate the 'D-Valientes' program by the Elx City Council "demonstrates the lack of commitment that the PP has with the rights of the LGTBI group and the defense of diversity."

'D-Valientes' is a project designed so that young people are able to avoid situations of bullying with the focus on the LGTBI community because the previous municipal authorities understood that "when there is bullying for homophobic reasons it is more difficult to report it."

The Elx City Council is governed by PP and Vox; In fact, it was the first major agreement reached by both parties in the Valencian Community after the regional and municipal elections in May.

In statements sent to the media, Martínez has assured that from the PSPV “we are not going to take a step back in the defense of the rights of the group” and has announced that the socialist group will present an initiative in Les Corts “to protect and guarantee that the Generalitat complies with and enforces the Law on LGTBI people in all municipalities.”

Furthermore, he highlighted that the socialists “will hold a round of meetings with the educational and LGTBI community to address this situation” because “we are not going to let them take away everything we have achieved in recent years.”
