The PSC urges to reform the rules of Parliament to expel Laura Borràs

“We are not going to sit idly by” if Laura Borràs, the president of Parliament suspended from office and convicted of corruption by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) does not leave office. This was announced by the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa a few days ago, and said and done, the Catalan socialists will register this Tuesday a bill to reform the regulations of the Catalan Chamber "with the aim of ending the interim that lives" the institution for eight months now.

This was announced by Illa in her speech at the PSC National Council on Monday, where she detailed that this proposal "will establish in which cases and in what way the members of the Parliamentary Committee can be dismissed, including its presidency as well as the members of the tables of the parliamentary commissions".

The leader of the PSC has appealed to the "responsibility" of his group to carry out this reform, at the same time that he has demanded the "collaboration" of the rest of "to bring it to a successful conclusion and with rapid processing." The objective would be, according to Illa, for this "simple" reform to be approved "before the end of April." And it is that "institutions cannot be put at the service of anyone", in the same way that "nobody is above the self-government institutions of Catalonia", he has taught him.

Illa has thus resumed her especially harsh speech this Sunday, at the closing of the PSC municipal convention in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) where the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, participated. After the head of the central Executive slammed the door on the possible pardon proposed by the TSJC for being a "manual" corruption case, the PSC leader accused Borràs of "discrediting the institutions."

“In Spain, no one is condemned for being pro-independence; corruption is condemned. Stop. This discrediting of institutions has ended, believing oneself above everything and everyone and not accepting the consequences of one's own actions, ”he reproached.

The interim situation of the Parliament has once again been the reason for comment by the rest of the parties, together with the failure of the summit against the drought held in Palau last Friday. Esquerra once again urged Junts to take a "step forward" with Borràs, remarking that if the post-convergents insist on "mixing" the cause of their president with others related to the process, what they do is "whitewash the repression". And although he has expressed his party's willingness to redo a pact between independentistas to elect a new president, he has made it subject to Borràs resigning or having his credentials withdrawn, something that some parliamentary groups have already requested - Ciudadanos, Vox and PP – to the Central Electoral Board.

But Junts continues like someone who hears it rain. The response of the post-convergents has been to throw a dart at ERC for its "interest in diverting attention from the theater that the tripartite does -due to the budget pact with PSC and commons- in Madrid, Barcelona and Catalonia and that paralyzes the country". The spokesman, Josep Rius, pulled from the manual to denounce the "irregularities" of the judicial process and the "persecution with political overtones" of the president.

From En Comú Podem they have also demanded that Borràs "do not entrench himself" and resign, although they have warned that "we are talking with other political forces" to try to end the interim Parliament.
