The mayor of Esparreguera (Barcelona), Eduard Rivas, of the PSC, has been elected this Wednesday as the new president of the Federation of Municipalities of Catalonia (FMC) for the next four years, replacing Olga Arnau in the position.
The new vice-presidents of the FMC will be the mayor of Balaguer (Lleida), Lorena González; that of Canyelles (Barcelona), Rosa Huguet; that of El Prat de Llobregat, Lluís Mijoler; that of Martorell, Xavier Fonollosa; that of Mataró, David Bote; that of Mollerussa (Lleida), Marc Solsona; the one from Tàrrega, Alba Pijuan, and the one from Torelló, Marçal Ortuño, informed the FMC in a statement this Wednesday.
The executive of the FMC is completed by fifteen other mayors, among whom stand out the one from Gandesa (Tarragona), Carles Luz; that of Besalú (Girona), Lluís Guinó, or that of Camprodon (Girona), Xavier Guitart, among others.
The new president of the entity has stated that municipalism must be "the seed of large cross-cutting and multi-level country agreements, essential for institutional governance", while adding that, when the FMC positions itself, it does so " representing the pluralism of towns and cities".
"We will continue to move through dialogue and agreement between parties, but also between towns and cities to have today a plural, broad, diverse and representative executive committee in Catalonia," added Rivas. Furthermore, he has pointed out that, for the next four years, we must "value the FMC" and that it must "grow as an entity, adding new town councils."
In the assembly this Wednesday, in which Rivas was elected president, the FMC has also approved a resolution in which it demands that the review of the financing of the local world, the repeal of the LRSAL, be addressed in this mandate, the preparation of a local government law and reviewing the local cooperation fund, among other measures.
