Socialist militancy gives broad support to the pacts

87.13% of the PSOE militancy voted in favor of Pedro Sánchez's government and investiture agreements in the consultation with socialist affiliates that culminated last night. With 92% of the scrutiny, only 11.93% spoke against it, and participation was 63.4%. For its part, 85.4% of the PSC membership ratified the agreements. Up to 7,909 members of the PSC participated in the vote, 61.6% of the census. And 12.2% voted against it.

Socialist militancy, as celebrated by Sánchez last week in front of the federal committee, "never fails when it is asked to take a step forward". With this conviction, and after defending the amnesty for those accused in the process, the leader of the PSOE demanded the support of the affiliates for his government and investiture agreements. And, although they are not yet all closed, he already predicted "very important support" from the grassroots.

And so it was. Up to 172,600 members of the PSOE, the PSC and the youth of the two formations had the right to vote, in a consultation that took place online from Monday to this Friday, and yesterday in person at the groups. The question raised, however, required both support for the coalition government program with Sumar and the rest of the agreements necessary for Sánchez's investiture. "Do you support the agreement to form a government with Sumar and get the support of other political formations to reach the necessary majority?", he asked.

A trick question, according to the territorial leaders and leaders of the PSOE who reject the Amnesty law, despite the fact that they still do not know its content. But the question was formulated in this way, precisely so that the affiliates did not have to express themselves in the amnesty, since it has not yet been formally agreed.

If Sánchez's predictions had been fulfilled, however, the affiliates could have known the content of the Amnesty law since Thursday, since his plan was that it would have been registered in Congress that day. But Carles Puigdemont maintains the legislative proposal, still in negotiation with the PSOE.

Ferraz does not state, however, that the two territorial leaders who oppose this initiative, Emiliano García-Page from Castilla-Manche and Javier Lambán from Aragon, have campaigned for no in this consultation, despite the fact that in their federations the amnesty is very difficult to pass. On the other hand, other regional socialist leaders, such as the Andalusian Juan Espadas, the Catalan Salvador Illa and the Valencian Ximo Puig, did campaign very actively in favor of yes.

In the last consultation with the socialist militancy, on November 23, 2019, about the pre-government agreement between Sánchez and the then leader of Podem, Pablo Iglesias, participation was 63%, and the yes was overwhelming, with 95,421 votes, 92% of the total for the PSOE. Support was still higher than the PSC, at 93.6%.
