Spain, in collaboration with the Egyptian authorities, will evacuate between 140 and 178 citizens with Spanish nationality or family members from Gaza in the next few hours, expected between today and tomorrow, as reported by the acting Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles.
"Everything is ready there to go look for the Spaniards between today or tomorrow," the minister said in statements to journalists at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid), before detailing that a team is ready in Cairo. and that in Spain the Armed Forces are also prepared in case it is necessary to carry out an air evacuation.
After the Ministry of the Interior of Gaza confirmed yesterday that the departure of foreigners of various nationalities from the Strip, under the control of Hamas, has been authorized, Robles has indicated that the Israeli and Egyptian authorities are informing the different countries of these departures by the Rafah crossing towards Egypt.
Robles has reported that there are about 140 citizens with dual Spanish nationality, a figure that reaches 178 people when adding family members. Furthermore, the head of Defense has pointed out that some Spaniards have already been able to leave Gaza by other means along with other foreigners, such as the case of the Valencian citizen who managed to leave this Wednesday through the Rafah crossing towards Egypt through Doctors Without Borders.
