PP and Vox are committed to a regulation different from that of the AVL for the official name of Valencia

A day after the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, recognized the "academic and scientific authority" of the Valencian Language Academy with respect to Valencian, the Valencian PP has supported a proposal by Vox to return to the bilingual name of the city of Valencia, but following a different regulation than the AVL.

The representatives of the PP in the commission that was studying this name change have supported the far-right proposal to close the emphasis on Valencia "in accordance with the Puig regulations endorsed by the Royal Academy of Valencian Culture, the Rat Penat, and other representative institutions of the authentic Valencian culture".

The PP had already made clear its commitment to recover the double name, but the surprise among the opposition groups was that it supported Vox's theses contrary to the Academy's regulations in the municipal commission of Social Welfare, Education, Culture and Sports.

Given this action, the councilor of Compromís por València, Pere Fuset, has warned that the change of name from València to "Valéncia/Valencia" goes against the Statute of Autonomy of the Valencian Community and the Law creating the AVL and has accused Catalá of being “tied hand and foot” by its priority partner Vox, which has imposed a name outside the official regulations of the Valencian language, “a fact that is unthinkable in any serious society, very far from the ' “sensible and determined self-government in what the vast majority of Valencian society believes.” The PSPV has also voted against this initiative.

For their part, the City Council points out that with this first step the process begins that will take the name change to the plenary session and then send the file to the Consell, which is the one who must approve the final change. The same sources understand that the necessary reports will have to be issued but they trust that it can go ahead.

Regarding the position of the AVL that opens the emphasis (València), the council points out that it is not a unanimous position and believes it is necessary to open the debate.
