Perelada celebrates its centenary with a turnover at pre-covid levels

Perelada celebrates its centenary this year after having surpassed the pre-pandemic figures in 2022. In 2022 the Empordà winery increased its turnover by 10% compared to the 2019 figure and was above 20 million euros. This year it expects to grow another 10%, to exceed 22 million euros. It already exports 32% of its wines and cavas and has proposed that exports grow by 60% in just three years after strengthening its commercial team. They are confident of strengthening their presence in the markets of USA, UK, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan and China.

55% of the Perelada winery's sales are concentrated in Catalonia and 13% in the rest of the Spanish market.

The turnover of Grup Perelada, which also has wineries in Ronda, La Rioja, Navarra and Priorat, was 64 million euros, a figure also higher than that of the pandemic. On the other hand, the new Pescador winery, where the wines with the highest volume of sales will be made and where the central warehouse will be located, has already begun to be built in Vilamalla, with an expected investment of 20 million.

The president, Javier Suqué, announced a new stage focused on "being benchmarks in sustainability and continuing to grow in quality". In the coming years, they will advance the practices of regenerative agriculture, which takes care of the health of the earth by maintaining, stimulating and regenerating its fertility and biodiversity. By 2025, all its vineyards will have organic farming certification. They also work on the expansion of irrigation with water recovered from the treatment plant or semi-underground irrigation. In addition, it has been announced that they are looking for farms located at higher altitudes, more humid areas or varieties resistant to drought and high temperatures to fight against the effects of climate change. In total, more than 200 sustainability initiatives have been designed.

The group also announced that it intends in the future to have wineries in denominations of origin such as Ribera del Duero (where they already own 44 hectares of vineyards), Bierzo, Ribeira Sacra or Rías Baixas.

"We already have four generations of our family to promote a project that excites us", underlined Javier Suqué. The events to celebrate the centenary of the winery founded in 1923 by Miquel Mateu Pla will begin next May with an exhibition and immersive tastings at the Ideal digital arts center in Barcelona. A commemorative wine (a thousand bottles of the most exclusive product produced so far by the Suqué Mateu family) and a cava de Guarda Superior will also be released.

The centenary comes after the inauguration last year of the new large cellar where Perelada produces its most iconic wines in the Empordà, with an investment of 40 million.
