Minister Morant does not clarify her intentions a few days before the congressional process opens

Just four days before the PSPV executive opens the congressional process, the visit of the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, to Valencian lands was marked in red on the agendas of Valencian socialists. However, Morant's presence in Alicante, the fiefdom of Alejandro Soler - the leader who has most clearly indicated her willingness to run to lead the second federation of the PSOE - had generated a lot of expectation. However, the minister did not get wet and did not clarify her intentions in an act that she shared with the mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, one of the people loyal to Soler in the province of Alicante.

Asked about the possibility of running for the General Secretariat of the PSPV, Morant limited herself to saying that what she plans to do "as a militant and minister of the Government of Spain, is to contribute" from her responsibility "everything necessary" for a process of which The Valencian socialists have to "come out with a strong project that presents the ambition of all progressive citizens."

Faced with such lack of definition, even implying that she had no intention of being a protagonist in the process, she was cross-examined and, again, used clichés, although this time without closing doors: "The PSPV will have me for whatever is necessary, which is to form "an exciting project that reflects the ambition of the progressive society of the Valencian Community that views the PP and Vox government project with amazement." However, from her statements it cannot be deduced what the minister will do.

In fact, all the families of the party are waiting for Morant's decision; that she would be endorsed by Ferraz and would have the approval of Ximism, which sees her as the best option to return to the Generalitat in 2027. They understand that she should be the one to take the first step. The problem, PSPV sources explain to La Vanguardia, is that it seems that the minister does not want to appear until it is clear that she will have a simple and unrivaled congress.

"It seems that he does not have the necessary support to take the step," sources close to the general secretary of the PSPV in the province of Valencia, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, pointed out the other day. The mayor of Mislata has not yet made a decision while waiting to see what step the minister takes.

Although everything seems to have stopped, the speculation does not stop at the PSPV. There is even talk of formulas to avoid confrontation that would involve a bicephaly in which Diana Morant would be the general secretary and Alejandro Soler would be the deputy secretary and the person who would run the day-to-day running of the party given the former's status as minister. There has also been speculation about the more remote possibility that Soler was directly the general secretary, reserving the electoral poster for the minister, with a more obvious media focus.

Thus, sources from the current party leadership consulted by this newspaper do not see these bicephalies as viable, as they understand that they are very complicated to manage, especially in a party that is in the opposition. They consider that these unusual formulas in Valencian politics can generate problems in the medium and long term when the person in power of the party apparatus is tempted to have more prominence.

Precisely one of the reasons for advancing the congress at the beginning of the year is to resolve internal issues and, if there are fights like those that occurred in previous conclaves, these will occur away from the electoral calendar.
