Miki Núñez: "If we were moved by love, we would be happier"

121 is a palindrome number that has caught the attention of Miki Núñez. The singer who achieved fame with Operación Triunfo, represented Spain at Eurovision and his image has become popular in Catalonia thanks to the music contest of TV3 Eufòria has chosen him from among the infinite number of numbers to headline the his new album. And he didn't choose it because of his peculiar capicua reading, but because browsing Google he found some information that caught his attention. "Scientists had found that chemical love only lasts 121 days," he explains. And he, who believes that the heart ends up imposing itself on the neural and hormonal reactions that science studies, decided to borrow this figure. "Love is the most important engine there is and we would all be happier if we were moved by love", he says. That's why he has decided to sing it in different ways and through a variety of rhythms, signing an album of twelve catchy and joyful tracks that he composed during the last two and a half years. "It has many things of mine, it is my essence", he considers.

The first song of the album also has a number as the protagonist, 10 minutes, which, he reveals, is the maximum time he needs to fall in love, just as it happened to him with his partner. For some years now he has been sharing life and work with Sara Roy, a singer-songwriter like him, who became known as a child as a member of the Macedonian group. "It was love at first sight", he explains. "He was my platonic love when I was a teenager and we met at the fiesta major in Rialp before entering Operación Triunfo", he remembers. "We followed each other on Instagram and when I left the Academy we started talking". Bye now. "I am very much in love and we have a monogamous, closed and super traditional relationship." They live with the dog Blue and the rabbit Bombo and share a computer, guitar, microphone... "We share everything, life and music", he says. And this is how they both collaborate on each other's songs. "Half of this record has Sara's help, and half of hers, mine," he reveals.

He does not hesitate to consider himself a lucky person, the title of another of the album's tracks, Suerte. The refrain says: "I know we've had luck", but this luck doesn't come out of nowhere. "I've been studying music since I was four, I haven't sat on the couch for a single day until I've achieved what I wanted, and I don't want to stop." What do you aspire to at the age of 27? "I don't want a Ferrari or a helicopter, I want to be happy with what I have and be able to help the people around me if they need it."

On June 30, a tour begins at the Sant Jordi Club in Barcelona that will take him all over Spain, ready for his summer album to become one of the most danced during these hot months. He also hopes that the director of Eufòria, Tono Hernández, will count on him for a third season of the music competition preceded by the return of Operación Triunfo. Deciding between one program or another would for him be like having to choose between a father or a mother: "OT gave me the opportunity to place myself on the musical scene, and Eufória, to be able to present". In both cases he celebrates that "opportunities are given to those who dream of being a musician". Regarding the controversial lawsuit for plagiarism that Toni Cruz and Josep Maria Mainat, creators of Operación Triunfo, have filed against Eufòria, Núñez is clear: "The basis is the same, a contest of singers who were eliminated, like many of others, but there are many differences", says the person who thoroughly masters both formats.

The singer also knows Eurovision well after his time as Spain's representative in 2019. "It's very hard, you prepare a song for seven months and you only see three minutes of it", he laments while defending Blanca Paloma's participation in the latest edition. Of course, he recognizes that Spain is unable to find the formula that will lead to victory. Would you repeat it? "I never say no", he affirms with this positive energy that characterizes him and that drives him to enjoy life with the best of smiles. And, as it could not be otherwise, transmitting a lot of love.
