Metro Madrid and the Regional Transport Consortium are studying the possibility of prohibiting the entry of electric scooters into the underground after the incident that occurred this Tuesday when the battery of one of these devices exploded.

This was explained by the Minister of the Presidency and spokesperson for the regional Government, Miguel Ángel García Martín, at a press conference after the meeting of the Madrid Government Council.

“The causes of the incident are being analyzed and the Consortium and Metro are analyzing and evaluating the possibility of prohibiting this type of device. The possibility of not allowing their entry into the metro network is being studied,” Martín assured.

The service of line 2 of the Madrid Metro was interrupted this Tuesday afternoon for three hours in four stations after the battery of an electric scooter exploded.

The event, in which no victims have been recorded, occurred at 5:40 p.m. inside the last car of a convoy when it was stopped on the platform of the La Elipa station and several fire crews from the City Council had to intervene to dissipate the smoke from the station.
