Almost the same age, same height, same style and similar public image. Queen Letizia (50) and Queen Rania of Jordan (52) met again in Madrid, eight years after their first meeting as queens and just over a month after they met in London, on 6 May at the coronation of Charles III. Rania accompanied her husband, King Abdullah of Jordan, on his working visit to Spain, which also coincided with the ninth anniversary of Felipe VI's proclamation.
Both queens visited, before joining Felip and Abdallah for a lunch, the Heritage Workshop School, located in the Royal Palace, where training is offered in trades related to the recovery of artistic or natural heritage to young people at risk of social exclusion. Queen Rania had previously shown her interest in this initiative in order to move it to Jordan, a country rich in archaeological and historical heritage and with a large population of young people in precarious jobs or unemployed.
The scene of the meeting was the same where nineteen years and one month ago the image of Rania of Jordan, in a silk blouse and long mauve skirt with lace, went around the world, when she went as a wedding guest of the then Prince of Asturias with Letizia Ortiz. The Jordanian queen then won the title of the most elegant and stylish royal on the planet, which, over the years, would be contested by Letícia herself and also by Catherine, the current Princess of Wales. All three hit the podium places, while the rest can only reach the fourth position.
Rania married Prince Abdullah of Jordan in 1993 (thirty years on June 10) and became Queen in 1999, after the death of King Hussein. A lover of good brands and luxury fashion brands, Rània has set a style mark in all her appearances outside her country; in Jordan, and after receiving quite a bit of criticism, tries to adapt traditional dresses to modern designs.
Since the wedding of the then princes of Asturias, the meetings of Leticia and Rania, except for the one mentioned in London, have taken place at royal weddings and also in international forums such as the UN and others. On all occasions, they have become the protagonists of style duels; yesterday Letícia won by a landslide. Clad in a straight midi dress with printed flowers in various shades of blue and pink, designed by Diego Estrada, paired in pink with a Carolina Herrera handbag and Magrit high-heeled shoes, she surpassed a Rania who, following the protocol and Arab customs, even if he dresses in fashion he never shows his arms. The Jordanian queen opted for a dark blue skirt and long-sleeve jumper set with flowers and butterflies embroidered in pink, designed by Dior; Fendi handbag and Manolo Blahnik shoes.
