"It is a triumph of the Galician clan". It is a comment that runs through the ranks of the PP, after Alberto Núñez Feijóo has placed one of his closest collaborators in Galicia, Miguel Tellado, in the key position of the next legislature, speaker in Congress, where the parliamentary life, especially while the amnesty law is being processed.
So, the popular leader designed the type of opposition he wanted to make, fierce, not at all generous with the central government, on the contrary, leaving no room for understanding. Those who know the PP from the inside were clear that there were only two candidates for the position of spokesperson, vacant after it was decided that Cuca Gamarra would remain exclusively as general secretary: Miguel Tellado and Elías Bendodo.
And Feijóo has made a safe bet appointing Tellado, with whom he has been working in Galicia for many years. Not only that: Elías Bendodo is relegated and, as general coordinator, number three in the party after Cuca Gamarra, he becomes deputy secretary. According to the new organizational chart that the president of the PP is working out day by day, until making it official on Thursday, Bendodo assumes the vice-secretariat left vacant by Pedro Rollán after he was appointed president of the Senate, that of regional and municipal policy.
The position of general coordinator is abolished, since the coordination will be in the hands of Gamarra, and Bendodo will keep the areas of electoral evolution and trends in his vice-secretariat, in addition to those of analysis and strategic planning, which already depended directly on he Thus, Bendodo's vice-secretariat will be responsible for regional and municipal policy and electoral analysis. Feijóo groups around the Andalusian politician the area secretaries of two departments, his previous one and that of Rollán.
According to PP sources, the position of the new deputy secretary "will be of fundamental importance to the organizational chart of the party", since he will coordinate the policy that is developed from the national headquarters with which the different autonomous communities exercise "at the moment of institutional presence of the training". The PP, they underline, presides over 11 autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, holds the vice-presidency of the Canary Islands (all of which represent 70% of the population), directs the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and governs 40% of the town councils of Spain
However, other sources emphasize that this coordination task with the autonomous communities, in important matters, is carried out by Feijóo himself, who regularly speaks with the barons of the PP, at least with the main ones, so the role of the coordinator between autonomous communities remains for less relevant affairs.
Elías Bendodo, whose discomfort with the change has been discussed, reacted to his appointment by thanking Feijóo. On his X account he underlined: "Thank you, President Núnez Feijóo, for trusting me for the vice secretary of regional and municipal policy and electoral analysis. It is an honor to be in your team and to perform this role at a time when the PP has a great responsibility throughout the territory". He still wrote one more message on this network, with the photo accompanying this chronicle: "A great team, with the best captain".
Feijóo also announced yesterday that Alicia García, senator for Ávila, will be the new spokesperson in the Senate. The Castilian politician, who has also been a member of Congress, was a councilor in her city and councilor of the Council of Castilla y León. He will be the one who will face Sánchez in the Senate control sessions.
But the changes don't end there: the president of the PP will also announce the changes to the area secretaries on Thursday, where he aims to include young people who bring new ideas to the party's policy.
