Did I have to be a polling station in the Catalunya 2024 elections?: these are the dates on which you will know if you have been selected

For the next elections in Catalonia on May 12, 5,754,840 people are called to vote. Some of them will be selected to go to the polling stations as president, members and substitutes. In total, each polling station is made up of a president, two members and two substitutes are also appointed for each of the polling station members. Therefore, more than 70,000 people will be notified as board members or substitutes for the next Catalan elections. These are the dates on which you will know if you have been selected:

The draws for the polling stations for the Catalan elections will be held between Saturday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 17. They are public draws and are carried out in the town halls under the supervision of the electoral boards.

Since there is no public list with the results of the draws, the notification must be personal for each selected person. The responsibility lies with the town councils, and the usual thing is that Post Office employees are responsible for distributing the documentation by certified mail with return receipt to the homes of the chosen people.

Notifications begin to be received three days after the draw, so starting on the 16th the people selected in the draw can be notified. The results are not public and a delay in notification will not invalidate the designation as a member of the board.

Each polling station is made up of a president and two members, but a substitute is also elected for each position. The members of the board must be under seventy years of age and know how to read and write. In addition, the president must have a high school diploma or a second-level vocational training degree or, alternatively, a school graduate or equivalent. The election of members is chosen by lottery.

From the date of notification, the designated persons have a period of 7 calendar days to present allegations regarding their designation before the zone electoral board (JEZ) corresponding to their municipality of residence.

The legal causes that prevent the acceptance of the position of member or president of a polling station (incumbent or substitute) are: being over 65 years old, being a candidate for elections or having ineligible status according to the electoral law.

Furthermore, the designated persons may allege other causes, justified by documentation, which the JEZ will assess before resolving the allegations.
