Arrieta's sister to Sancho: "He's a monster"

After the family of Daniel Sancho, the young Spanish chef imprisoned in Thailand after confessing that he had murdered and dismembered the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta, released a statement on Thursday in which they regretted the death of the doctor - in which they assured that they accompanied him in the sentiment -, now it has been Arrieta's sister who has responded directly and comprehensively to the parents. "His son is a monster." In an interview with El Mundo published yesterday, Darlin Arrieta emphasized how this news has shaken his entire family. "It is a horrible nightmare that no human being deserves to live. But it must be more painful to be the father of someone who did such an act", says Arrieta, directly appealing to the Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho. "We are a very religious family and that faith is what keeps us calm and allows me to raise my voice for my brother", he explains. After the murder, the victim's family announced that they would remain silent, however, the sister was the only one who wanted to speak out after reading that Sancho claimed that he had been a victim to force him to commit unimaginable acts and keep him as a "hostage". "They want to make him look like he's guilty of his own murder, like a criminal. This gentleman has not only dismembered Edwin's body, but also dismembered my family. And he adds: "not happy with this, he is destroying my brother's reputation and now he says that our family is very dangerous because it turns out that we are mobsters".

The family of the deceased has already expressed on repeated occasions that their only wishes are that justice be done and that they can take the body to their mother to give her a Christian burial. That is why, while in Thailand they continue to investigate and clarify small details of the murder, Edwin Arrieta's parents and sister await the arrival of his remains in Lorica, his hometown, where the mayor himself goes decree three days of official mourning.

His parents had always maintained a very close relationship with their son. The mother, Marcela Arteaga, was a teacher in a school and the father, Leobaldo Arrieta, was dedicated to fixing all kinds of household appliances. From a very young age, Edwin decided he wanted to be a doctor, says his sister Darlin. He studied Medicine at the Free University of Barranquilla and, later, specialized in plastic surgery in Argentina, with the great financial effort, which did not belong to a wealthy social class that this brought to his parents. They always stayed in the city of Lorica, while their son traveled the world until he settled in Munteria, capital of the department of Córdoba, where he joined the team of plastic surgeons at the Fundació Amics clinic of Health, the same colleagues who were completely shocked after learning the news of the terrible murder.
