Amnesty, a whole State pact

The uniqueness of a political strategist often lies in approaching matters from a different perspective. Are there no State pacts in Spain? It depends on what counts as such. "The idea that only the PSOE and the PP can make State pacts must be banished. Now we are in a multi-party system", pointed out the political consultant Iván Redondo yesterday, at a lunch-colloquium at the Cercle del Liceu.

In front of around thirty members of the Barcelona entity, led by the president, Francisco Gaudier, Redondo addressed various current political affairs, among which the Amnesty law could not be missing, once again in the foreground with the agreement of the PSOE, ERC and Junts that derails its parliamentary processing. "It is the first State pact and there will be more. Now we are in a multiparty system", he stressed.

Readers of the articles he publishes on these pages on Mondays must already know that Iván Redondo has been and is a staunch defender of amnesty, and of the first to endorse the opportunities for reconciliation that criminal oblivion would have for those accused of process "The process is part of a past stage. The pro-independence party may not be very clear about its future, but those who promote amnesty want to move forward", he insisted yesterday. And it was expansive: "The amnesty is the news of the decade". Counting time in decades is one of its particularities.

Another is that he takes risks. Thus, he pointed out that the legislature "may reach 2027". Pedro Sánchez will have to continue counting the votes one by one to push forward new initiatives, but his term could end. "The amnesty is different from what we have experienced because for the first time people who have left politics are all back in. For me, amnesty can be stability", he said.

True to his style, and to his ability as a communicator, the fellow councilor of the Godó Group managed to spin in his speech the main issues of Catalan, Spanish and European politics, in accordance with the title of the meeting: "Europe , Spain, Catalonia: total reunion”. The editor-in-chief of Politics of this newspaper, Silvia Angulo, conducted the first part of the intervention like an interview, which preceded a discussion with the attendees, among them Marisa Falcó, countess of Godó, or the actress , personal friend of the speaker.

Moving from one subject to another, Redondo dropped several headlines, including that Sánchez is managing the Koldo case well, even though it is taking its toll. "The president is made of iron, but he has a heart and I feel his pain", assured who was his close collaborator in Moncloa between 2018 and 2021, as director of the Presidency's cabinet. Regarding the PP, he ruled out that Isabel Díaz Ayuso is a rival for the leadership of Alberto Núñez Feijóo: "Politics are moments. I don't see it as a threat, at all."

"There is such an avalanche of ideas, one after the other, that it is difficult to summarize them. We talked a lot about amnesty, the position and the fact that politics are moments", summed up Gaudier, in closing. Redondo readers already know what I was talking about.
