A group of United Nations rapporteurs asks the Government for information on the complaint of "political persecution" to ERC

Esquerra's complaints before the United Nations about the "political repression" by the State against the whole of the independence movement have found reflection in the international organization that has collected the complaint and, "without judging the information received" has claimed the Government of Spain to present allegations "to try to clarify" the complaint sent by the general secretary of the Republicans, Marta Rovira.

On behalf of a "transversal" representation of victims of this "political persecution", the ERC leader sent this group of rapporteurs a complaint about the grievances suffered by the repression against the independence movement in recent years. It exposes facts such as those derived from the demonstrations of the 1-O referendum, the sentences for the procés trial, the "exile" of some of the pro-independence leaders, the rest of the open criminal cases and the espionage through the Pegasus software .

The rapporteurs of the international organization show their "concern" about the complaint received, which refers to the "exercise of rights", they warn. Above all, they are concerned that "these actions to criminalize people exercising their civil and political rights will become a systematic pattern," they point out. They also express their concern about the "alleged cybernetic espionage", the "economic repression", as well as their concern about "the number of people injured" in the demonstrations after 1-O.

The rapporteurs do not assume as true what Rovira denounced, but they demand that the State Government present the pertinent allegations. They give a period of 60 days for the Executive to explain the "measures adopted" to "put an end to all types of persecution and stigmatization", to guarantee an "impartial trial" in open cases, and the way in which the crimes of sedition, embezzlement and rebellion in national legislation and by judicial bodies.

Finally, the requirement of the rapporteurs calls on the Government to protect the right of political parties in Spain to "develop their functions freely" and for their members to "carry out their activities in a safe and favorable environment, free from interference", including " cyber espionage”.
