If the experimental offshore wind farm promoted by the Government in front of the Gulf of Roses has negative consequences on marine ecosystems, the Generalitat will appeal to Europe the decision of the Ministry for Ecological Transition to allow the implantation of floating mills in that space.
This was assured this morning by the Minister of Climate Action, Teresa Jordà, after meeting with the mayors of the municipalities of Alt and Baix Empordà affected by the offshore wind farm plan approved by the Council of Ministers last Tuesday.
Jordà wanted to make it clear that this test platform, which will have at most three wind turbines, must provide data on the consequences that this type of energy can have, which is still little studied.
"The trial should help us to have rigorous information on what it can represent," he said. In this sense, he pointed out that if it is shown that floating wind turbines "have major effects on marine ecosystems", the Generalitat "will be on the side of the territory" and "we will turn to Europe".
This experimental offshore wind farm will not be a reality before 2025 or 2026 and business projects will not see the light of day before 2030. There are currently six proposals on the table.
On the other hand, Jordà has indicated that the Generalitat will have a "determining" role in the auction of wind farms after the approval of the Maritime Space Management Plans (POEM) and that they give a green light for the implementation of this energy model in an area of 250 square kilometers facing the Gulf of Roses.
An area, which Jordà points out that the Government's allegations have allowed it to be significantly reduced since initially there was talk of a maritime tablet of about 1,000 square kilometers
