Three people have died and another four have been injured this Sunday in Rome after being shot by a man who opened fire indiscriminately at a meeting of the neighborhood community in a suburb of the capital. The three fatalities are women and the injured have been urgently admitted to different hospitals in the city.

The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, has regretted this "very serious episode of violence that has shocked the city" and has transferred his "support" and "closeness" to both the families of the three victims and the rest of those affected by the event .

The shooting took place around 9:30 a.m. (8:30 GMT) this Sunday at the premises of a bar on Via Monte Giberto, in the peripheral neighborhood of Colle Salario, north of the city, where a meeting was being held. of neighbors.

The attack occurred when one of the tenants of the community entered the premises and, after closing the door, "opened fire on the administrators and then shot at other residents", according to some eyewitnesses on RAI public television.

The author of the shots, a 57-year-old man, was located, disarmed and arrested by agents of the carabineros (militarized police) and is already in police stations.

At the moment the reasons for the event are unknown, although, according to the first reconstructions, the origin could be due to old disagreements between the murderer and the administrators of the property.

Those wounded by firearms who are being treated in the Roman hospitals of Sant'Andrea, Umberto I and Gemelli, according to the health advisor for the Lazio region, Alessio D'Amato.

Another has only fainted from the shock but has been sent to the Sandro Pertini hospital to keep him under surveillance.

Neighbors have assured RAI that they knew the attacker, whom they describe as "closed" and "reserved", and apparently he was in dispute with the community, which he had threatened in the past.

They were the ones who raised the alarm, immediately calling the emergency services, who sent the police and four ambulances to the scene.

Gualtieri has called a meeting of the committee for order and public safety for tomorrow.
