The price of electricity doubles this Monday, with 136.7 euros per MWh

The price of electricity will rise this Monday to 136.74 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), a figure that doubles that of this Sunday (67.22 euros), according to the results of the wholesale market auction.

The final average price is the result of adding the 135.37 euros per MWh registered in the wholesale market and the provisional adjustment that the beneficiaries of the gas cap have to pay to compensate the plants that use this material to generate electricity, which for this Monday it is 1.37 euros per MWh.

Without the so-called "Iberian mechanism", which limits the price of natural gas for electricity generation, the wholesale price for this Monday would be 149.61 euros per MWh, that is, 12.87 euros higher, according to with data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE) and the Iberian Gas Market (Mibgas).

In this calculation, the new gas cap of 45 euros is already applied, which will be in force throughout January.

By time slots, and excluding the adjustment, electricity will reach its highest price between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with 220 euros per MWh, and its lowest, between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., with 90 euros per MWh.

The price of electricity for this Monday is far from the 230.5 euros per MWh of a year ago and also below that of other European countries: in France it will reach 162.13 euros per MWh, and in Italy, 155 .83 euros per MWh. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, it will be located at 118.68 pounds per MWh (about 135 euros at the current exchange rate).
