The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, thanked this Saturday for the "clear and responsible" position of Spain in relation to the Moroccan nature of Western Sahara after the support expressed in March by the Spanish Government for the Moroccan autonomy plan in the face of the ambitions of independence of the Saharawi independence movement from the Polisario Front.

"We appreciate the clear and responsible position of Spain, our neighbor, who is well aware of the origin and reality of this dispute," said the monarch during a speech delivered this Saturday on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People. , the official name of the nationalist uprising against the French colonial authorities.

In his speech, picked up by the official Moroccan news agency MAP, the monarch assured that the "immovable position of the United States" in favor of the autonomy plan has made it easier for "numerous countries of great importance to express their support and positive consideration for initiative" from Rabat to resolve this "artificial" dispute.

This "constructive position" expressed by the United States or Spain will contribute, according to the monarch, "to opening a new page in relations of trust and the strengthening of quality association with these friendly countries."

The Polisario Front, it should be remembered, responded in March to Spain's support for the Moroccan autonomy plan, assuring that this support does not change the fact that from the point of view of International Law, Western Sahara, in its opinion, continues to be a non-autonomous territory. for which a decolonization process must be completed.

Faced with this, the monarch has also addressed other countries that have not yet spoken openly on the question of Western Sahara, whom he has asked to clarify their position.

"We hope that some countries, among Morocco's partners, both traditional and new, that adopt unclear positions regarding the Moroccanity of the Sahara, clarify their positions and review their content, in a way that does not admit interpretations," he asserted.
