The leadership of Esquerra Republicana recognizes that many people attended the Diada demonstration organized by the ANC, in which its top leaders and its members in the Government were not present, considering that it was being convened against them, but it values the demonstrations "of the million and a half" that were seen in previous calls for "being more inclusive and transversal".
The general secretary of the ERC, Marta Rovira, in an interview on RAC1, lamented that after yesterday's demonstration "there were many people from Esquerra who were devastated" after having heard shouts of "botiflers" and "Govern resignation" directed at their formation and the executive that they lead together with Junts and has warned that "we will not achieve independence without ERC". In fact, the number two of the Republicans has gone further and has warned that independence will not be achieved "with that wear and tear and with that degrading internal debate."
"We must return to the demonstrations of a million and a half people, the ones that led us to win," Rovira launched. A message that has also been picked up by the deputy spokeswoman for the Republicans, Marta Vilalta, who, after agreeing that citizens must be listened to and that criticisms made "with respect" must be "taken note of", has calling on the independence forces to return to being "a transversal and winning movement and mobilize many more people". "The people are there and what we have to do is make sure no one feels excluded," Vilalta insisted in an interview on La 2. "We all need each other," recalled the Republican spokeswoman, lamenting that "sometimes there are those who wrong adversary", alluding to the Assembly and its manifesto that underestimated dialogue and the role of the parties.
And it is that both leaders have defended the Republicans' commitment to dialogue and have rejected that there should be elections as requested by the president of the ANC, Dolors Feliu, who yesterday demanded that the Government "make independence or elections." "If this is about independence or elections, let them explain to us how independence is done now, and we'll get down to it," Rovira snapped indignantly. "But let them tell us how," she added.
Both leaders have also agreed with the general secretary of JuntsxCatalunya, Jordi Turull, who calls for reopening the space for the strategic direction of independence, although they have added nuances to the request. Vilalta has shown herself willing to improve everything that can be improved but has asked that all these issues not affect the stability of the Government which, she has recalled, must respond to edl policies day by day in an environment of crisis and high inflation, for which has appealed to the "responsibility" of its partners.
