Dua Lipa excites a dedicated audience with a spectacular show at the Palau Sant Jordi

Finally, the thousands of unconditional devotees who had bought a ticket to see their idol in the flesh saw their longing satisfied: after a postponement, the British singer Dua Lipa was able to get on stage at the Palau Sant Jordi as part of The Future Nostalgia Tour. The role of the concert was sold out and the expectation was palpable, and his appearance, a quarter of an hour later than nine (scheduled time) was tremendous after a video introduction with fragments of the song Physical, which was the one with which he opened the night . The singer was dressed in a full-length pink bodysuit and ad hoc shoes (she later changed three times). And from there it was a non stop of voice, sound volume, shouting and hits accompanied by their respective videographies.

If the name of the tour refers to the title of their latest album, it is because the backbone of the concert concentrated almost monopolistically on its content. Throughout the hour and a half that the colorful and catchy evening lasted, it was possible to taste practically all of their successful album –which drinks from styles already embedded generationally such as dance-pop or disco music– leaving a couple of cuts of their self-titled first album in an almost testimonial way.

The expectation aroused by her presence –which will be repeated in just over a week at the Parc del Fòrum within the Primavera Sound festival– reflects a popularity based in turn on unappealable figures. We must not forget that Lipa is one of the most listened to artists in Spotify on a planetary scale, and that songs like Don't start now are permanent hits on the platforms, and collaborations like Cold heart with Elton John (who sang with interspersed fragments of the musician himself from a film) have also reverberated in his numerous army of followers as it happened last night. She knew how to dose her stage exhibitionism so to speak, although when she moved in a slightly provocative way as in Pretty please or Fever the respectable roared. "Good night Barcelona, thanks for everything" was his presentation at the end of the song Break my heart, to then explain the desire to share music that he has had during the pandemic, interspersed with praises for Barcelona - which he repeated all night - while he sang Be the one, from their first album. And the party continued.

And it is that she has been able to connect with a very wide audience with her mix of addictive pop and spectacular choreographies starring her and a dozen dancers, two of them also skilled skaters. The forceful music, very direct, was offered by four instrumentalists and a choir of four equally effective voices.

There were spectacular moments such as the scenery of the so-called second chapter with a giant lobster on stage, or on the portico of the fourth chapter of the concert, when during the performance of the song Levitating the secondary stage in the middle of the dance floor was put to .. levitate An impressive element of a very entertaining show but also frenetic in its rhythm (Electricity or Hallucinate), which managed to combine pop rhythms that invite dancing, swaying and hedonistic in general and some songs melodically and harmonically very successful.

These two years of waiting, even frustrating stand-by, finally blew up as demonstrated by an audience that expressed their need to share joy and social contact. The vast majority of the audience was young, with female protagonism, and a significant foreign presence, who, in addition to enjoying the luminosity that was inside and outside the Palau Sant Jordi, showed that they knew their songbook in depth. I don't know if he is the centennial generation or not, but there is no doubt that he had a wonderful time last night.
