Valencia closes parks, cemeteries and suspends outdoor sports activities

The Valencia City Council has closed municipal sports facilities, cemeteries and parks due to the wind storm. As explained by municipal sources in a statement, due to the combination of these two phenomena (squall and coastal storm) it is expected that the wind gusts in the interior of the city will exceed 70 km/h. For this reason, the FDM Alerts Committee has decided to suspend all outdoor sports activities due to the risk of accidents.

The Municipal Sports Foundation (FDM) has suspended outdoor activities at its facilities for this afternoon and evening due to the wind storm, since the AEMT has confirmed a yellow alert for wind and an orange alert for coastal risk that will affect the northern coast of Valencia. for this afternoon of Thursday, November 2, starting at 6:00 p.m. and that will continue until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, November 3, 2023.

Likewise, the Valencia City Council has also decided to close the seven cemeteries in the city, to avoid possible risks derived from the storm. In this sense, citizens are reminded that they must exercise caution and act prudently in the face of strong winds and maintain vigilance in wooded areas due to the risk that atmospheric circumstances may cause fractures and falling leaves and branches from trees. .

Minutes before, the Department of Parks and Gardens reported that it had been agreed to close the municipal parks of Benicalap, Polifilo, Ayora, Oeste, Orriols, Natzaret, Amelia Chiner, the Monforte garden and the Hespérides garden due to the strong gusts of wind that affect the city at the moment. The parks and gardens that will remain closed are facilities that have a security fence.

In the same statement it was explained that the situation could be expanded in the next few hours to new municipal parks depending on the evolution of the meteorological situation.
