Toro Vega spreads panic by escaping from the route and seriously injuring a man

A 67-year-old man has been seriously injured after being gored in the leg by the bull that this Tuesday morning starred in the Toro de la Vega celebration in Tordesillas (Valladolid), which caused panic by breaking the talanquera, escape from the route and knock over several people.

The spectator was gored in one leg, so after a tourniquet was applied, he was urgently evacuated to the infirmary of the municipality's bullring, where he underwent surgery, as the president of the Red Cross explained to EFE in Tordesillas, Iván de la Cruz.

After undergoing surgery, this resident of Tordesillas has been evacuated in an ambulance to the University Clinical Hospital of Valladolid, according to the newspaper El Norte de Castilla in its digital edition.

The animal was anesthetized with a tranquilizing dart by the field team responsible for the celebration and transported in a shovel vehicle to the arena corrals, thus concluding an event that lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The injured man, who was bleeding profusely, witnessed the celebration at the wooden palisade that delimits the fenced area of the open field, near the roundabout that separates two roads heading to Salamanca and Madrid.

In this place, the bull, named 'Mirabajo', was located, a five-year-old bull, weighing 550 kilos and shod in the Salamanca cattle ranch of Pío Tabernero de Vilvís, who attacked the wooden palisade, broke the thick wooden crossbars and escaped. towards the old Madrid highway.

As he fled, he knocked over several spectators and hit one of them in an area that is usually very crowded with trailers, shovels, trucks and other vehicles where numerous people are standing to watch the spectacle.

The Toro de la Vega, part of the patron saint festivities of Tordesillas, is celebrated without spears as was traditional and without death in public, until it was prohibited in 2016 by the Junta de Castilla y León through a decree-law.

In January of last year, the Tordesillas City Council, always within the law, tried to recover the character of a tournament with the proposal of a contest consisting of sticking decorated harpoons, in the manner of the badges that the horned ones wear in bullfights to identify its origin.

An appeal filed by the Party Against Animal Abuse (PACMA) frustrated this initiative when it was paralyzed by the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León (TSJCyL), so since 2016 the Toro de la Vega has been classified as a traditional bullfighting spectacle. similar to releasing a bull from a box.

However, the animal trap, the schedule, setting and organization are exactly the same as the traditional spear tournament now suppressed.
