The high speed will debut in Asturias on November 29

The railway infrastructure that connects Asturias and León will begin operating on November 29 after 19 years of works and 4,000 million euros invested, which has made it the most complex railway project that has been built in Spain. The Government Delegation in Asturias has added that the day after the inauguration, November 30, will be the day of commissioning.

The announcement took place at the inauguration ceremony of the third lane of the A-66 highway, a five-kilometer road that links Lugones and Matalablima that began construction in December 2019 with an expense of 30 million. The president, Pedro Sánchez, and the Asturian president, Adrián Barbón, were present at the event.

The Madrid-Asturias journey is currently 4 hours and between 15-39 minutes, and with the improvement it will be three hours. The adaptation of the León-La Robla section and the incorporation of the Avril trains will improve the situation. These convoys with greater capacity than the Alvia will be launched from the first quarter of next year 2024.

The Asturian Government estimates that with the high speed there will go from 230,000 travelers to 600,000 who go to the Principality each year. On the other hand, he highlighted the improvement that it will mean for the transport of goods given that its size will double and the cost of companies will be reduced by two thirds.
