The 7 news you need to know this Monday, January 22, morning

Hello good morning!

There does not seem to be any political priority in Spain other than the territorial question. This is evidenced by the campaign in Galicia and the dirty war of the Rajoy Government against the Catalan independence movement, an operation that represents a serious setback to the legitimacy of the police and justice. Meanwhile, Sánchez and Feijóo accuse each other of weakening democracy.

Spain. The Ministry of the Interior under the presidency of Mariano Rajoy paid 25,000 euros in black from the funds reserved to a French customs chief to endorse a false report that attributed a million-dollar account in Switzerland to Xavier Trías. Interior sent this report to the UDEF, the anti-money laundering agency, and leaked it to the press.

Galicia. President Pedro Sánchez attacks the PP for Operation Catalunya saying that “this is not how Spain unites.” The PP, for its part, campaigns in Galicia stating that it is the only brake on separatism, that is, on the advance of the nationalist party BNG.

Can. The marriage between Podemos and the Commons has lasted ten years. The two formations will go separately to the European elections. Podemos is increasingly alone and it is Sumar who brings together the vote of the alternative left.

Middle East. The war in Gaza has already caused 25,000 deaths and 62,000 injuries, according to the Palestinian health service. Meanwhile, the Houthis, Yemeni rebels in favor of Iran and Hamas, are the new pirates of the Red Sea.

USA. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis withdraws from the White House race and says he will support Trump. Nikki Halley is now the only one who can challenge the former president's Republican nomination. Tomorrow Tuesday there are primaries in New Hampshire.

Education. The Government seems determined to reverse the poor results of the PISA report with a special plan to improve the level of mathematics and reading comprehension in third grade and ESO. Some 4.7 million students will now receive a boost.

Barcelona. The Mossos and the Guàrdia Urbana maintain a strong fight that threatens citizen security and that originates in a dispute over how to put an end to the drug dealers. Each body will now act on its own.

Chuck Palahniuk, writer. “Whenever someone beautiful rejects me, I turn them into a character and kill them.” Read it here.

Soccer. Controversy in LaLiga due to the weight of the refereeing decisions in Real Madrid's comeback against Almería (3-2). Barça, with a great Lamine Yamal and a hat trick from Ferran Torres, beat Betis (2-4). Comfortable victory for Girona over Sevilla (5-1).

Cinema. There is no horror movie without screams. The success of the film largely depends on its perfection. The great risk that actors run – including dubbing actors – is becoming hoarse from shouting so much.

Hollywood. The young Sydney Sweeney is the star of the moment. Nobody monopolizes screens anymore. She appears in a Rolling Stones video, she stars in and produces an independent film (American) and acts in Madame Web, Marvel's upcoming release.

Carlo Greppi, historian. “What is kindness? The answer is a man: Lorenzo Perrone.” Read it here.
