The school specialized in design and visual arts LCI Barcelona has recognized the short film about death made by Jan Cánovas with the Award for Best Final High School Project 2023. The young student has stood out among more than 100 participants in the 6th edition of this award that recognizes the talent of high school students, and which this year has experienced a significant increase of 30% in applications.
Cánovas' work is a musical short film titled "La memòria d'una ànima siempre" in which the various ways of facing a near death are addressed. This short film has won a prize valued at more than 2,700 euros, which includes a 27-inch iMAC and an iPad Air, tools that will allow this student to continue developing his creative skills.
As Cánovas explains, this short addresses a topic that has “marked” him in his personal life and that serves both to “channel and express” an idea and to use it in a “therapeutic” sense. The process of carrying out the work has been quite a challenge, but it has had the support of people who have collaborated voluntarily. His work sought to reflect the diverse perspectives on death based on a true story, and he hopes it will help those who have experienced similar traumatic processes.
The award ceremony not only recognized this work, but also awarded Laia Regalado Mariani, from the Alexandre Satorras Institute; and Berta Sallés Lusilla, from the CIC Escola Bacchillerats, second and third prize respectively. These students won a Polaroid valued at more than 100 euros as a prize.
In addition, the winner's educational center, the Daina-Isard school, will receive a batch of books from Gustavo Gili Publishing House valued at 200 euros, thus contributing to the promotion of the creative and artistic areas that characterize LCI Barcelona's teaching.
The 6th edition of the award has set a record for entries, receiving a total of 104 projects, reflecting an increase of 30% compared to previous editions. Participation has expanded to more than 60 educational centers in 46 different municipalities, consolidating the popularity of the contest throughout Catalonia.
The contest has had the participation of educational centers from 21 regions and a total of 67 educational institutions. The EART Vic and the Daina-Isard school stood out as the places with the highest number of projects presented.
The competition, open to all Baccalaureate students in Catalonia, has proven to be an effective platform to enhance and promote studies and professions related to design, visual arts and creativity. Young people have been able to present works related to the areas of Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Animation, Video Game Design, Product Design, Photography, Innovation and Creativity.
The deadline for receiving applications for the 7th edition will begin shortly and will last until June of next year. The jury will issue its resolution during the month of September and the award ceremony will take place during the last quarter of 2024.
