The National Police have arrested a 66-year-old Icelandic tourist who spent 8,000 euros in a night establishment in the south of Tenerife. The foreigner reported the false theft of his credit card and improper charges to his alleged thieves for an amount identical to the amount he squandered.

This man reported to the Police that he had been the subject of a violent robbery and that, shortly after, unknown people had made charges worth 8,000 euros with the stolen card, sources from the Provincial Police Station detail.

The agents in charge of the investigation located the establishment where these charges were made, a nightlife venue in the south of Tenerife.

Through the analysis of the hours of the charges, and of witnesses who were in the establishment when they occurred, they learned that the complainant, who had been in the establishment for several hours in a row, had multiple drinks there and invited numerous occasions to other clients.

The agents, once they had gathered sufficient evidence, went to the hotel where the complainant was staying and proceeded to arrest him. It should be remembered that pretending to be responsible for or victim of a crime knowing it is false, or reporting a non-existent one, may constitute a criminal offense that may carry a fine of 6 to 12 months.
