A firefighter goes to work with his baby after changing his work schedule

A firefighter from La Rioja went to work with his baby after his schedule was changed. Andrés Bretón works in the Arnedo park, a municipality about 50 kilometers from Logroño, the city where he lives.

As reported by eldiario.es, Bretón is enjoying breastfeeding leave after the birth of his son Martín, who is now five months old. “I chose to leave work an hour before work to facilitate my wife's return to the job market,” he explains.

The firefighter usually worked the night shift, from 00:00 to 7:00 in the morning. “On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, at one in the morning, the manager of the CEIS Rioja notifies me, by resolution, that I must extend the day from 8:00 in the morning to 4:00 p.m. due to service needs” , it states.

Bretón informed the manager, up to six times, that in order to comply with the resolution, he would go to work with his baby because “resolutions must be fulfilled.” At 7 in the morning, he left Arnedo park and went to pick up Martín to return to work with the little one.

“I had no other option, I had no one to leave Martín with, our entire support network was working,” he adds. “When I showed up with Martín, the corporal on duty called the sergeant on duty to inform him of the situation, and the sergeant in turn called the manager who immediately called to leave the service.”

The origin of the disagreements lies in the lack of personnel. The CEIS Rioja includes the fire stations of Nájera, Haro, Calahorra and Arnedo and in each of them 18 professionals work, including firefighters and corporals, with shifts in which three personnel work.
