Week 13 of pregnancy: almost complete organs

The final stretch of the first trimester of pregnancy and the proximity of the second trimester are a reason for joy for many mothers. Each new stage is even more exciting than the previous one. On the days that correspond to the 13th week, the gestation further increases the speed of growth that could already be perceived during the 8th week of pregnancy and which reaches its peak from the 12th week on.

The physical changes in the mother are more evident and, on the other hand, some discomforts that began to be present in the 5th week of pregnancy, such as fatigue, give way to other sensations. Some describe the experience as a shot of energy, although other discomforts will arise as well.

The physical changes in the mother's body are more visible, she is already beginning to lose her waist, there is a weight gain and the belly is becoming more and more noticeable. It is time to put aside the tight clothes and decide on looser and more comfortable clothes.

The breasts will also show symptoms of pregnancy, they will not have so much to do with their growth —the increase will no longer be so noticeable— but with the skin, due to the appearance of stretch marks and veins. The areolas of the nipples will also look different, larger and darker. And sometimes they will secrete a thick liquid, colostrum, which will be the milk that the baby will receive during the first days after birth.

Although dizziness and nausea are behind us in most cases, some women will suffer from heartburn and reflux instead, although this does not always happen. It is also common for cases of constipation to occur.

In the 13th week of pregnancy, the fetus will already have a weight that ranges between 13 and 20 grams, while its size can be between 6 and 8 centimeters, figures that will begin to increase at great speed. The most relevant evolution of this phase is that the baby's organs will be almost formed, for example, the external genitalia will be easily distinguishable by their morphology.

The facial features will also be appreciated much better, since the eyes will be positioned in the center of the face, as well as the ears, which will also adopt a position closer to the final one. However, the head will still have to develop, especially in terms of its size, in order to adopt more proportionate dimensions with respect to the rest of the body.
