Torrent removes the children's magazine in Valencian 'Camacuc' from its libraries

The Torrent City Council, formed by PP and Vox, has eliminated the subscription to the Valencian children's magazine Camacuc. A few days ago the council called the publication, which is published in Paiporta, just a few kilometers from the municipality, to request the cancellation of its subscription. They have not been given a reason, explains the editor of the magazine, Joan Escrivà, who in a few weeks would have contacted the municipality directly, as well as others, to find out if this subscription was still valid during 2024.

The same magazine reported on the news on the social network "X" (formerly Twitter) by explaining that "they do not want Camacuc, the only children's magazine in Valencian, to be present in the libraries of Torrent. We do not explain why. We will continue forward, offering reading and culture and we will find a way to return to Torrent."

With this gesture, Torrent follows the path of Burriana, where the Popular Party and Vox also govern. In the month of July, the Councilor for Culture, Jesús Albiol, from Vox, announced the cancellation of the council's subscription to Camacuc, as well as Cavall Fort and El Temps, Enderrock and Llengua Nacional. Albiol then pointed out that the previous local government "promoted Catalan separatism with the money of the people of Burrian."

Days later, there were clarifications from the council, which claimed that it would study which magazines would continue to reach the municipal libraries from January 1, 2024. However, in the case of Camacuc the City Council finally canceled the subscription a few weeks ago, confirms Write. The publishing company regrets that this path could be followed by other municipal corporations for the same reason.
