For coffee lovers, having a couple of cups a day is one of those small pleasures that make all the difference. In the case of consuming them outside, in a bar or a cafeteria, the annual bill can reach up to 400 euros. But enjoying them at home is somewhat cheaper and, according to a recent study by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), when the year ends we also leave a little bit to enjoy at home.

Many times we are not aware of how much we invest in these small expenses. For this reason, the OCU has carried out an investigation on the market prices of some ground coffees to find the expense that ends up assuming for our pocket. As is logical, it is cheaper to drink a couple of cups of a private label coffee than to do one of the first brands. However, packages of the first type have fared well in this analysis.

The white label costs half the price and has a very similar quality, reveals the study. Calculating that for each cup we use approximately eight grams of ground coffee, the annual cost of two cups a day would be around 33 euros. Specifically, the cheapest brands do not reach 1.50 euros per container (250 grams), while the score given by the organization ranges between 74 and 77 points.

Top-brand coffees, better valued, although with a slightly higher score of 79 and 81 points, would mean an annual expense of about 72 euros. If the savings for one person are already considerable if white brands are consumed, in a home with three people who consume coffee, the cost per year would go from 216 euros to around 100.

Thus, every year we spend between 33 and 72 euros to enjoy those two cups of coffee a day. This assuming that we do not add sugar or milk to that coffee, or that we prepare it with mineral water. Taking it at home is still much cheaper than doing it in the cafeteria, but be that as it may, they should not take away the pleasure of drinking coffee from those who like it so much.
