The new library of Arenys de Mar, the most valued project of the Next Generation

The work of the new Library of Arenys de Mar (Maresme) has been the best valued project of the contest for the financing of cultural projects that the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has resolved with the Next Generation funds for sustainable rehabilitation of public buildings. With this new grant, the library project adds a total of 5,114,428 euros in grants and external aid, 83% of the total funding required.

The restoration work on the old convent and its surroundings, as well as the construction of the new Les Clarisses library, was awarded, in the municipal plenary session last November, in two separate lots for carrying out the work and for the facilities.

The Les Clarisses project and the Arenyense candidacy for financing the Next Generation fund has been the first with the most scores among the 1,100 proposals that were submitted from all over Spain. In addition, in the last year confirmation of subsidies and aid has been received from the Diputació de Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Government of Spain.

Last March, the meetings prior to the start of the work were held and last Tuesday, March 28, the companies awarded with the municipal technical services and the construction management, contracted by the City Council, signed the Act of reconsideration that allows the construction of the new library to begin. The execution period is estimated at 18 months.

The total work tendered is 5,068,906.96 (6,133,377.42, VAT included). It was awarded last November to the companies Ecoclima Barcelona (€1,274,926) and Contratas Vilor (€3,904,597) (both amounts including VAT).

The contribution of the Government of Spain is the total aid requested of 2,746,217.630 euros from the financing of the Next Generation funds. The commitment to promote a modern and sustainable building has allowed us to win this call.

For its part, the Generalitat of Catalonia makes contributions to the project from various help lines. Subsidy for works of notable cultural value, amounting to 200,000 euros.

Subsidy for the four-year Plan of works of the Libraries Plan, amounting to 1,379,148.72 euros. Plus a contribution of 97,000 euros for library furniture and equipment. The Diputació de Barcelona will contribute from the General Investment Plan the amount of 745,280.87 euros. The remaining amount that is planned to be financed with the City Council's own resources is currently 1,062,730.20 euros.
