The Catalan PEN promotes a manifesto of the "mundo de las letras" to warn of the climate crisis

The Climate Emergency Committee of PEN Català has promoted the manifesto 'Call for the earth from the world of letters' to warn about the climate crisis and demand changes in the economic, cultural and social model "with the people of the world of letters" and from the world of letters".

The head of the committee and member of the PEN Català board, Miquel Àngel Llauger, explained the initiative this Friday electronically, adding that the manifesto will be presented this Saturday in a dialogue with the writers Laia Malo and Josep Lluís Badal within the framework of the Literal Fair, which is held this weekend in Barcelona.

The entity promotes the manifesto with the aim of making contributions from writing, translation, publishing and journalism and requesting urgent actions, and has the support of some 200 personalities from the literary sector of "diverse ages, geographical origins and field", highlighted Llauger.

Specifically, the manifesto has the support of writers and authors such as Vicenç Altaió, Sebastià Alzamora, Joaquim Carbó, Ada Castells, Biel Mesquida, Sebastià Portell, Gemma Ruiz, Josep Vallverdú, Tina Vallès, Antònia Vicens and Blanca Llum Vidal, among others.

Llauger has detailed that the document proposes to review and reduce the impact of the activity of the sector; create forums to reflect on how the literature of the 21st century reflects the climate crisis and avoid "dependence on the interests of polluting corporations", emphasizing the alternatives.

The manifesto also advocates combating the "fake news of climate denialism and the general climate of persecution of dissent" by environmental activists.

Llauger has ensured that the fight against the climate emergency is a matter of social justice, the well-being of citizens and human rights, which is why he is aligned with the activity of the PEN, "which has always defended freedoms".
