Neighborhood dispute over the "disgusting" smell of meat: ask to close windows when cooking

An unusual dispute between neighbors has arisen in the northern suburbs of Perth (Australia) due to the aroma of food. A Burns Beach resident has written to his neighbor asking her to close her windows when cooking his "disgusting" meat, on behalf of his vegan relatives, PerthNow reports.

The author of the letter delivered the message in an envelope with "PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY" written on the front. The letter, which was shared on the 'Hey Perth' Facebook group, begins: "Hello neighbor, could you close your side window when you cook?"

And he continues: “My family is vegan, we only eat plant-based foods, and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset. We would appreciate your understanding. Thank you. Sarah, Wayne and the kids."

The letter has generated an avalanche of reactions from Facebook users, who have mainly been perplexed by its content. Some tongue-in-cheek comments have surfaced in response to the situation. One user wrote: "I'd bet her mouth waters when the old friend mows the lawn and she smells that deliciously fresh freshly cut grass." Another comment noted: "I am offended by the smell of the kale (cabbage) that she always cooks."

Despite the letter, other residents have decided to take the opposite position and have expressed their desire to organize barbecues in solidarity with the affected neighbor. "Oh man... I'd fire up the barbecue and invite the whole street," one of them said.

This dispute over kitchen odors demonstrates how unexpected conflicts can arise even between seemingly friendly neighbors.
