It is one of the most exotic fruits in the world and comes from Indonesia. It belongs to the same family as lychee and offers great benefits for our body. It is small, oval in shape and very sweet, somewhat similar to grape pulp. It has a fresh, juicy and slightly acidic flavor. Its external appearance is made up of a thin layer covered with “hairs”. Because of its appearance, rambutan is also known as hairy lychee.

If we want to choose the most ripe rambutans, the trick is to differentiate them by color. At first they are green, and then they turn red, yellow or orange. When choosing them, it is advisable to discard those that have mold or are damaged. We can find them throughout the year, and if we keep them in the refrigerator in plastic bags with holes, they last well for many days.

To eat this fruit, you must first remove the outer part (the hairy part). To do this, we can take a knife and cut the peel in half without going through the pulp. When we have the shell in half, we press lightly with our fingers so that the edible pulp comes to the surface. We must keep in mind that inside the pulp there is a poisonous seed that we have to remove. Due to its multiple benefits for our body, the WHO recommends its consumption.
