Charlie Rivel, the world's most beloved clown

Without saying a word, with howls, guitar at the ready, the Catalan Josep Andreu became the most famous clown in the world. The son of circus artists, he had been born by chance, during a tour, in Garraf, on Sant Jordi's day, and had made his debut in his troupe at the age of three. The clown came from caste and, talented, quickly stood out.

But luck stopped smiling on him when the German public endorsed him and he ended up being instrumentalized and turned into an element of Nazi propaganda, which represented a major stoppage in his career.

After hiding for nine years, he made a comeback, and in 1954 he came to Barcelona as a star of Circo Price. In 1970 she triumphed in the cinema under the baton of Fellini, in I clowns. Awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi, he would remain silent in Catalonia on July 23, 1983. He was 86 years old.
