Belina and Onara: the two retired guide dogs adopted by Pedro Piqueras

When it comes to adopting a dog, puppies are usually the most requested. They are adorable, it is not so difficult for them to adapt to a new home and a new family, you can educate them from scratch and thus make sure that they will accompany you for a longer time with their long lives ahead.

However, elderly dogs are also deserving of a second life, regardless of their previous experience. Some have been abandoned by their previous family, while others have to change homes at the end of a certain task. This would be, for example, the case of assistance or service dogs, including police dogs and guide dogs.

When they reach a certain age, they are no longer fully capable of continuing to carry out their work. It is then when the time comes to find them a new family and a new home, where they can rest and enjoy their retirement, being cared for and treated with the affection they deserve. An example of this are Belina and Onara, the dogs adopted by the news presenter Pedro Piqueras.

Pedro Piqueras has surprised his 15,000 followers on the Instagram social network with an emotional video in which he presents Belina and Onara, his two adopted dogs. Both arrived at the journalist's house older, with seven and nine years of age. Previously, they diligently carried out their work as guide dogs.

“They are happy as retirees, keeping each other company, playing non-stop,” explains the presenter, while adding that “it is impossible to look at them without feeling something really deep towards them. Their lives have taken on a new meaning."

In the text that accompanies the video -in which moments of walks and games of the dogs follow one another-, Piqueras wonders "why not welcome older dogs when they still have so much to contribute?". "Of course, because of the age you have to be aware of giving them their pills every day," he finally adds.
