Why '9-1-1' has raised dust in the United States with its latest episode

The series 9-1-1 is causing an earthquake among its United States audience. ABC, the channel that broadcasts the series there, had tried to generate expectations with the seventh season and viewers were not disappointed. What is happening? And how is the team reacting to the reaction of a sector of the fans?

Of course, these explanations are only suitable for those who are not afraid of harsh spoilers, since the chapter is still unpublished in Spain, where the seventh season will not arrive until April 15 on Star Channel, formerly known as the Fox channel.

It is not about a death. For a change, 9-1-1 doesn't provoke conversation after some eccentric or spectacular emergency like a baby in a pipe or a tsunami in Los Angeles. This time what has raised dust is the turn of the sexuality of Buck (Oliver Stark), a character who has always flirted with sexual addiction and risk addiction, and who has always been speculated to have sexual tension with Eddie ( Ryan Guzman), always on that fine line that separates bro culture from homosexuality.

And what happens? In the episode, Buck (Oliver Stark), after boarding a helicopter for a rescue operation, goes to Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr) to ask how his Los Angeles emergency service unit works. And, after becoming jealous of Tommy and Eddie's (Ryan Guzman) friendship, Buck receives a visit from the pilot.

When talking about jealousy in male friendships, the public was left with their asses twisted when they saw that the situation led to sexual and/or romantic tension that culminated in a romantic kiss. “Was it okay?” Tommy asked a Buck who gave his consent to the situation and who agreed to have a date the next day with his co-worker. And Buck's look, which conveyed surprise but also satisfaction, left no room for doubt: the character is bisexual.

“I feel humbled and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to Buck's plot,” said Oliver Stark from his Instagram account. He feels “proud” to have had the opportunity to interpret this story arc. But, seeing that a sector of the audience has been scandalized and angry at the bisexuality of his character, he also wanted to dedicate a message to the detractors and homophobes.

“If you are one of the small group of people who comment on my posts to say that this has ruined the series, I wanted to tell you that I really don't care,” he openly expressed. He also asked them that they don't even need to announce that they are leaving 9-1-1 because, to begin with, they have never understood Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's proposal: "If a character discovering a new facet of his sexuality and his bisexuality is reason to leave the series, I'm afraid you've never understood the series."

In his opinion, 9-1-1 is a series “about love and inclusion” and has had “queer relationships from the beginning, including a beautiful, black, lesbian marriage played by two of the best actresses” he has seen on screen, referring to Aisha Hinds and Karen Wilson. Murphy and Falchuk's television career is also a good example of LGBT representation on screen with titles like Glee, American Horror Story and the 9-1-1 franchise to corroborate it.
