What happened to Jess Smith, the baby who played the sun in 'Teletubbies'?

The name Jess Smith may probably sound like nothing to the vast majority, but many know her very well and since they were very little: she played the sun from the well-known children's program Teletubbies. The young girl was only nine months old when she was selected to play the popular character in the late 90s and she became a phenomenon among children.

The young woman was chosen for the program shortly after birth while she was being weighed in the hospital, after one of the producers saw her, smiling and laughing; so he considered that Jess fit the role perfectly. Now, time passes for everyone. A few months ago, Smith managed to revolutionize an entire generation by announcing that she was expecting her first child. "The Teletubbies sun has its own little sun," commented one of her followers after her announcement on social networks.

The "Sun Baby" is now 27 years old - whom his followers affectionately call "Sunny" -, although it seems that no time has passed, and he already has his baby in his arms. The little girl, the result of her relationship with Ricky Latham, was born on January 8 and is called Poppy.

An arrival that has filled the couple with joy, who have not stopped sharing images with the little girl since then.

Despite being one of the most famous girls on television in the 90s, Jess Smith's life has nothing to do with that today. What's more, as she confessed two years ago in an interview with Star magazine, she does not remember anything about her time on the famous children's program.

The young woman lives in the small coastal town of Whitstable, in the southeast of the United Kingdom, and her life could not be more peaceful. "I work for a security company, directing administrative processes," she explained to the aforementioned publication. "I don't remember anything about the original recordings. They told me that they put me in front of a mirror and I laughed at myself."

The last time Jess Smith appeared on Teletubbies was in 2001, but it was two years ago when a photo of her in her later years went viral on the Internet, making her the most searched woman on social media.

The popular children's series has returned from Netflix. Narrated by Tituss Burgess (The Amazing Kimmy Schmidt), it stars Rachelle Beinart, Rebecca Hyland, Nick Chee Ping Kellington and Jeremiah Krage as the iconic characters.
