This will be the abdication of Queen Margaret and the proclamation of Frederick of Denmark: the details of the ceremony

This 2024 is going to be a year of great changes, especially for European royalty. Margaret II of Denmark herself made it very clear in her year-end speech: on January 14 she plans to abdicate after 52 years of reign. News that left the Danes shocked given the popularity of her current queen and the scandal of her next one.

"Today all Danes are in shock," published the media outlet Jyllands-Posten. A blow that they are going to have to get used to, since there are only a few days left until the royal relief. And all this has revived what happened with the photographs of Federico de Denmark and Genoveva Casanovas, which would have been the cause of the queen's abandonment. Now, the program for the day in question has come to light.

The first thing that was known were the official titles that the family members will obtain. While Margaret II will remain Her Majesty Queen Margaret, so will her heirs: Her Majesty King Frederik X and Her Majesty Queen Mary.

Another important figure will be the new crown prince Christian, who came of age on October 15. The young man will be part of the act of abdication and the subsequent proclamation, as tradition dictates.

The Royal House of Denmark has published on its official website that everything will be experienced at Christiansborg Palace, on the islet of Slotsholmen in Copenhagen. At 2:00 p.m. Queen Margaret will sign her declaration of abdication at a Council of State where she will transfer her responsibilities to her son.

An hour later, Frederick will go to the castle balcony to be proclaimed the new king of Denmark. There the current princes will obtain their titles, and it will be in the office of the Danish prime minister and the Supreme Court where Christian will emerge as crown prince of Denmark.

After this entire solemn ceremony, at 5:00 p.m. the royal standards will be transferred from the Christian IX Palace, where the current queen resides, to the Frederick VIII Palace, residence of Frederick and Mary. Three turning points that will be experienced on a historic day for Denmark, being her first abdication in centuries.

And this fact would have occurred because of the royal scandal of recent months. As Luis Pliego, director of the magazine Lecturas, revealed, it would have been Mary who would have imposed on Margarita: "Either we are kings now, or this is over." And it would have been the only request from the next Danish queen not to divorce once and for all.
