The case of Maleesa Mooney has shocked American society. The 31-year-old model was found dead in her apartment, located in downtown Los Angeles, on September 12. The autopsy report, completed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, now reveals that Mooney's cause of death is listed as "homicidal violence." Little by little, more details about this case are coming to light, which has generated great media excitement.
According to the report, shared by media such as People or E! News, Maleesa was allegedly beaten and tied up before being put in the refrigerator of her own home. Apparently, and as revealed by her sister, the young woman at that time was two months pregnant. The investigation reveals that the victim had her wrists and ankles tied and then tied to her back using "electronic cords and clothing." The model was also found gagged with an article of clothing in her mouth, with visible injuries to her head, torso and arms.
"Traumatic blunt force injuries observed in the autopsy are generally not considered life-threatening on their own," the medical examiner said in the report, which was revealed by local media KTLA this Friday. "However, based on the circumstances in which Ms. Mooney was found, these injuries suggest that she was likely involved in a violent physical altercation prior to her death," she continued.
Although toxicological tests showed that Maleesa had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system, the forensic doctor assures that it is "uncertain" if they had anything to do with his death, since there are different injuries on his body. "Based on the history, circumstances, and autopsy findings as they are currently known, Ms. Mooney's death was likely the result of, or at least related to, the action of another individual(s) (s)", states the report.
"Without findings that elucidate a clear mechanism of death, or knowledge of the sequence of events that led to Ms. Mooney's death, the cause of death is considered homicidal violence. The manner of death is homicide," he says. The last time the model was seen alive was on a surveillance camera, during a welfare check conducted by police at the request of her mother, according to the report. It was on September 12 when her body was discovered in her own house.
Days after the body was found, Mooney's sister, Guyanese pop star Jourdin Pauline, spoke about the event, revealing the great anguish she felt. "This is so sick, I can't believe my big sister is gone!!!" she expressed at the time. "The reason I am me is because of you!!! My first best friend, the one who taught me everything I know!!!!!" she said, heartbroken. At the moment, there are no arrests in this case, so we will have to wait to learn more details about it.
