The tense bickering between Pedrerol and Samanta Villar in 'Espejo Público' for women's football: "Your populism doesn't interest me"

Millions of viewers in our country witnessed yesterday a tense moment that took place on the set of Espejo Público, a morning show presented daily by Susanna Griso on Antena 3.

This episode starred Josep Pedrerol, sports communicator and presenter of El Chiringuito, and journalist Samanta Villar, who began to discuss the working conditions of professional women's soccer players.

It all started because the presenter shared his point of view and explained to the audience that he does understand that female soccer players earn less money than men who do the same thing, since they generate less income than male players: ''It depends on the offer. and the demand. If there is more supply, you have more money and more possibilities.''

Faced with such statements, the legendary presenter of 21 days and Conexión Samanta responded very offended that it was a matter of denial of opportunities and that athletes could not generate more income if there was no investment: ''If you are denying her a salary of 30,000 measly euros a year to a player, how do you expect her to give you results and then fill stadiums? We prevent them from becoming professional, we don't give them the means to show what they do... But of course, you don't get the results.''

Cristóbal Soria and Tomás Roncero's co-worker did not like Villar's words very well and responded harshly that they were not "in that" and that he was not at all interested in "their populism." ''Well, your populism is less of a problem for me,'' the journalist responded tensely.

''Not this debate, I'm abandoning it. This debate is not worth it, it does not interest me at all. It's not serious (...) Let's have a serious debate for the people who see us, please. Here we all defend that women's football must be improved, but yours already seems like a joke to me,'' Pedrerol complained.

After several minutes of discussion and watching his collaborators go into a loop, Griso tried to stop the conversation. However, Ana Iris Simón got into the discussion and described Samanta Villar's speech as a ''trap''.

After several attempts, Griso fired Pedrerol: ''Hey, let me at this point say goodbye to Josep, thanking him as always for coming with us.'' The guest, for his part, wanted to make it clear that he shares the idea that women's football has to improve economically.
