A few days ago, The Snow Society, the new film by Juan Antonio Bayona, which will arrive on the streaming platform Netflix on January 4, premiered in cinemas throughout Spain.
The film is based on the book with the same title written by Pablo Vierci. The film talks about the situation experienced by the victims of the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 in the Andes mountain range in 1972.
Although many of the passengers of said plane died on impact, many others survived and were isolated at more than 4,000 meters above sea level without food or clothing to withstand the difficult weather conditions. This made them consider a series of moral and ethical questions and work as a team with a common goal.
As one could guess, the physical and mental process of the actors has been very important in this film, since they had to give life to the protagonists of one of the most media tragedies of the last century.
The artists were advised by nutrition experts to be able to show on camera the passage of days without eating that their characters experienced. This is the case of actor Enzo Vogrincic, who plays Numa Turcatti in the film. To play the role of the born leader, the performer had to undergo a strict diet during filming that only allowed him to eat one tangerine and one can of tuna a day.
Throughout the recording, Vogrincic lost 23 kilos and underwent other physical changes that allowed him to play Turcatti from a position of absolute truth. As Juan Antonio Bayona explained in an interview for Telemundo, filming was chronological and the characters were experiencing amazing changes: hair growth, burned skin, marks, etc.
