The 12 key phrases of Rodolfo Sancho about the case of his son Daniel

Rodolfo Sancho was said to have been arrogant in front of the media. Other times he was attentive and respectful. There is no guide on how to act when your son is accused by Thai authorities of having murdered a man, dismembering him and scattering the remains. And, after the attention of journalists to obtain in-depth statements from the actor, he has now offered an extensive interview for The Sancho Case.

These are the key phrases of the documentary that, for the moment, has broadcast a first episode and that later, after the end of the trial of Daniel Sancho for the murder of Edwin Arrieta,

The first reaction: “The first reaction is stupefaction and not believing at face value what they are saying because nothing added up, everything was very strange.”

Contact with the Arrieta family: “I sent a message to Edwin's family, specifically Darlin, at the beginning of August. Telling him that he was very sorry for his loss, that he didn't quite understand how that situation had come to be. It seemed to me that it was right, that it was human, and I continue to feel the loss of that human being, logically.”

What happened according to Daniel: “The truth is that in the conversation with Daniel, he told me that this guy had threatened him at the time of death, of harming his family. He defended himself against threats and an attempted sexual assault. And then he tells us what it was like: the fight, what happened after the fight, the fear, the panic, the state of dissociation."

On his son's reaction to Edwin Arrieta's death: “You don't know exactly how you would feel. Then talk to psychologists and they make you understand that in that moment of panic, of dissociation, reason stops working. “You want this to not have happened.”

The first visit to his son: “I started planning the trip to Thailand from the beginning. Going there without weapons to fight with made no sense. “I tried to put together a powerful team so that they can help me with the case.”

On supporting his son Daniel and how he is: “I told him, don't worry, I have formed a wonderful team, we are going to be able to fight for this. Inside, it was hard and everything was tense and hard to see Daniel in that situation... For the rest, it's fine. He sleeps on the floor but because Thais sleep on the floor on a futon. There is overcrowding, there are many people. To me, the fact that there is no violence seems very important to me. You imagine what could happen in there and... not at all. That prison is very friendly. I had that peace of mind from the beginning.”

He takes it philosophically: “Everything is a lesson. We come to learn. This is very clear. You can take it as learning or not, but you come to let life give you good and bad lessons.”

His son is a victim: “I have the perception that there are two victims and without a doubt there is one deceased and it is terrible.”

His impression of Edwin Arrieta despite not having known of his existence until his death: “Many people have a relationship that is toxic. What happens is that this has triggered something tremendous, but everything is a learning experience.”

Daniel didn't need money but he was influenceable: "Always a little more money... maybe it's good if you want to do certain things or like to go out to dinner in places you like, but obviously that's a mistake, a trap."

Doubt yourself: “I have questioned myself… was I a very young father? Didn't I have the maturity that I have now? Yes. But do I have to blame myself? If you don't relativize, you think it happened to you. Why me? But we will fight."

Regarding the upcoming sentence: “I have eliminated the concept of life imprisonment from my head. We hope they will declare him not guilty.”
