Teresa Ribó, the mother of the Pombos, opens up about her illness

She was one of the great unknowns in the family of influencer María Pombo, but Teresa Ribó has become a star after the premiere of the docuseries Pombo on December 1. The mother of the Pombo sisters became known after more than a decade “hidden” behind her daughters on social networks, and she has become one of the most beloved members of the family.

Teresa is also the member of the Pombo who is going through a very difficult time. The woman is happy with her three grandchildren - Martín (3), Matilda (1) and Vega (5 months) - and is delighted with the happiness of her daughters, but she has to face a problem every day, as she suffers from multiple sclerosis ( EM) for more than 20 years.

Teresa is feeling very well, but seeing her both in the family series and in the images that photographers capture of her from time to time show the harsh effects suffered by those who suffer from this disease. The mother of the Pombo sisters needs support in her daily life, in such everyday activities as walking or sitting in a chair.

However, for her tenacity and fortitude, Teresa Ribó has recently been awarded by the Kike Osborne Foundation. For this reason, she is honest with the magazine ¡Hola! about her illness and how she lives her day to day life, even recognizing that, in the beginning, her attitude was not precisely the same. When she was given the diagnosis she was “devastated.” She had just become a mother and thought about them all the time. Now, almost three decades later, she is grateful to have been able to witness all of her accomplishments.

“I go to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation twice a week,” confirms Ribó, explaining that he does physical exercise and occupational therapy with specialists to improve his quality of life, in addition to cognitive and psychiatric therapy.

However, the worst blow was not receiving her diagnosis, but that her daughter María also had it. “It made me immensely sad, I felt like I was transmitting her illness,” Teresa recalls.

María Pombo received her diagnosis after finding out that she was expecting her first child. She herself told how she felt through her social networks, and more recently, in her docuseries. “Two days after finding out that she was pregnant, she started having a lot of tingling. I had a lumbar puncture and an MRI. The results showed that she had an alteration in the spinal cord and some spots on her brain. They told me this was clearly sclerosis,” she explained.

A diagnosis that the influencer did not expect, but knew that she was aware that it could happen, given her medical history. However, precisely seeing her mother's strength made her move forward with confidence.

"My mother has been in all the important moments of my life: in my communion, in my wedding, in the breakups with my boyfriends... She has been in everything," reflected the influencer. "To think that I was going to be able to be with my baby all his life, whether he was better or worse, he calmed me down. At least I knew it wasn't something that was going to kill me.”
