'Peking Express' returns to television in 2024 with an important novelty in its casting

Beijing Express will finally return to television this year in 2024. Several days after it was learned that Spanish Television decided to scrap the return of the format, after studying its recovery in the current television season, it has been learned that the reality show will make the leap to HBO Max platform.

As reported exclusively by Algo Pasa TV through its social profiles, the travel and adventure contest will return to television eight years after its last broadcast, which took place on La Sexta, and with an important novelty among its contestants: for the first time time, they will not be anonymous but famous.

This is a new commitment by payment platforms for reality television programs, after the much-discussed return of Operación Triunfo through Prime Video or original Netflix formats such as Falso amor or Insiders.

In Spain, Pekín Express originally premiered on Cuatro in 2008, led by presenter Paula Vázquez, with four seasons that lasted until 2011. Subsequently, Atresmedia recovered the format with two seasons, the first on Antena 3 and the second in La Sexta, presented by Cristina Pedroche between 2015 and 2016.

The return of Pekín Express was scheduled for 2023 on TVE, but at the end of the year it was finally known that the public entity had decided to scrap its return due to the poor audience data obtained by El Conquistador, of a similar nature.

In this other adventure reality show, the contestants must travel up to 10,000 kilometers, a distance that separates two cities in different parts of the world—not necessarily Beijing, despite the name of the format—with just one euro a day, which they will invest in obtaining food and subsist during their traveling journey.
