Nicola Coughlan's peculiar demand in 'Bridgerton' for her Catholic parents

The public has asked themselves hundreds of times the question of what the parents of actors must think when they see their children performing different risque scenes. Do they violate each other? Do they carry it naturally? Do they just avoid them? And, while actors usually approach the subject naturally, Nicola Coughlan from The Bridgertons is one of those who does not feel particularly comfortable with the situation, taking into account the customs and Catholic faith of her parents.

As revealed by Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the Netflix series, she has a peculiar demand for the producers of The Bridgertons: they must give her the episodes of the period series on DVD without the raunchiest scenes. She wants the version for all audiences. And no, it's not a joke.

“It's literally written in my contract,” he explained in a radio interview, “people think I'm joking, but I don't want to: I was born Irish Catholic, this is not our thing.” It seems that, when the first season started, he was surprised to see Jonathan Bailey's ass when he had only had a few minutes of footage: he took it with humor, he thought it was "fantastic", but Coughlan prefers to give him the episodes of the romantic series without the scenes of a sexual nature.

The actress made these statements taking advantage of the fact that she is in her prime moment: she will be the romantic heroine of the third season of The Bridgertons. After the marriages of Simon (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), now it is the turn of Penelope and Colin (Luke Newton), who has always been in love with the young woman who writes high society gossip under the pseudonym Lady Whistledown. The synopsis says the following:

Penelope has finally thrown in the towel on her long-standing crush on Colin after hearing the derogatory words he made about her last season. However, she has decided that it is time to find a husband, preferably one who will give her the independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, away from her mother and sisters. But due to her lack of confidence, Penelope's attempts to make it in the wedding market fail miserably.

Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer vacation with a new look and serious gallant airs. But his heart breaks when he discovers that Penelope, the only person who has always loved him just the way he is, now turns her back on him. Eager to regain her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope to give her confidence in her search for a husband this season. But when these classes start to go too well, Colin doesn't know if his feelings for Penelope are real or if it's just friendship.

For now, Coughlan wanted to announce that “they broke a piece of furniture” when they were filming the key scenes between the two characters. The public will be able to clear their doubts on May 16 when the first part of the third season will premiere and the second half on June 13. It will be the first time that Netflix divides a season of The Bridgertons into two parts so as not to burn out one of its most viewed content so quickly.
